R.I.P. Charlton Heston
April 7th, 2008Charlton Heston, the legendary actor who had embodied so many historical figures, died on Saturday at the age of 84. He is well known for his portrayal of Moses in The Ten Commandments, and for his award winning role in the epic Ben Hur. Heston’s resume is filled with many other great memorable roles in films such as Planet Of The Apes, Julius Caesar, The Three Musketeers, Touch Of Evil, and the list goes on and on making his career over 60 years long.
Aside from his acting credits, Heston had been very active in promoting right wing politics and was a supporter of the gun lobby. In 1998 he became the president of the National Rifle Association, and later made tv ads for the organization. He is famously quoted for saying “I’ll give you my gun when you take it from my cold, dead hands.” He created many controversies with his beliefs but remained strong in his position.
He was a distinct character not only in his appearance, having a chiseled face and a tall muscular build, but his personality was strong and confident. His charisma infected many and he will remain immortal in the memories of others and in the films he left behind.
